TREATMENT OPTIONS

The days of stripping all varicose veins are gone. Better technology and new non-invasive treatments allow a choice of treatments that can be individualized.

We will discuss all options with you. We offer 5 options in treatment:

	DOING NOTHING
	STOCKINGS
	INJECTION TREATMENTS
		SCLEROTHERAPY
		ULTRASOUND GUIDED SCLEROTHERAPY (UGS)
	ENDOVENOUS LASER TREATMENT (EVLT)
	SURGERY

Usually, a mapping ultrasound scan is required before any treatment option is recommended. This scan will tell us your anatomy and the characteristics of the flow, which might influence the options available to your particular case.

Surgery is still the gold standard, to which all other treatments are compared. Unfortunately, none of the treatments can prevent the inborn weakness in your veins. So there is about a 15 – 20% chance with any form of treatment, of normal veins becoming varicose in the future. We are hoping that the new Transilluminated powered phlebectomy will reduce this rate, as we can see all the hidden veins during surgery, and remove those that might influence recurrence in the future. Only time will tell.
