Transilluminated Powered Phlebectomy
We are the first in NZ to use this technique. Instead of multiple nicks to remove the veins, we make a tiny nick that allows introduction of an anaesthetic solution and a strong light on a tiny wand. By slipping this behind the veins, they can be seen as a shadow. From the opposite end of the VV, a tiny morcillating instrument attached to suction is introduced under the skin. This is then guided to the vein, which is then gobbled up and suctioned out by the morcillator.
This technology reduces operating time by at least a half, and reduces the number of incisions by 50 – 75%. It would also seem that patients have less discomfort. They all walk on the day of their surgery, no stockings (a bandage for 48hrs only), no stitches, no dressing changes, and minimal scarring. In fact if they can see our scars, they are probably too damn close!
