TREATMENT OPTIONS - Surgery
Surgery
Still the gold standard. Many treatments are compared to old fashioned surgery, which was very sore and had poor results.
Our patients walk immediately after the surgery, go home the same day or next morning, with no stockings, no stitches for removal, and very quick return to work.
Cutting and tying off the main branch of the varicose vein in the groin has a 60% recurrence rate over 10yrs. Obviously we don’t do this.
Modern understanding of why Varicose Veins reoccur after surgery has led to the technique whereby the main trunk of the varicose veins are removed in the thigh, (or in the upper calf). We do not use conventional stripping. Instead, we use a nifty technique that allows us to remove the vein between a small cut in the groin and a nick at the knee, by turning the vein inside out. This reduces the trauma considerably.
Previously, we removed all visible VV through multiple tiny nicks and a special hook.
In any surgery, blood is still able to be returned from the leg via squillions of remaining healthy veins. You never run out of healthy veins!
